MONOTYPES
Monotypes are a "one-off" unique print, made in one creative session. Oil based ink is rolled and painted onto a glass sheet and the image is worked on with brushes, rags and other tools to add and remove areas of ink. When the image is ready, a sheet of paper is placed on top of the image and the print is "pulled" by running it through an etching press or by hand burnishing.
Some of these monotypes are based upon ancient Greek, Roman and Renaissance sculptures; Victorian photographer Eadweard Muybridge's animals in locomotion photography; whilst others are related to the series of oil paintings created from views of Falmouth Docks, Cornwall.
