Oil on canvas, 121 x 92 cm, unframed
The inspiration for this painting came from some personal photographs of a misty December night on an eerily deserted Blackpool Promenade, England, with its glowing amusement arcades. I wanted to juxtapose the natural forms in the foreground and of the elephant with the artificial but enticing glow of the electric lights, to create a "surreal" and thought-provoking scene.
The painting's surface is rich and varied with areas of impasto paint, spatters, thin luminous glazes, and vibrant glows.
